SpaceX Booster Recovery Program

SpaceX operates a fleet of autonomous spaceport droneships (ASDS) across the USA for Falcon 9 missions that cannot land back at the launch site (RTLS).

Falcon 9 missions may need to land on a droneship instead of RTLS due to the weight of the payload or the overall mission profile. Currently, SpaceX operates three droneships, with an original experimental droneship being retired in 2015.
